Hi folks..doing preliminary legwork in considering a relocation to G'boro for the opening of the new FedEx hub. Currently work for FedEx in Atlanta and giving this some thought. What can anyone tell me about the current progress on the construction/completion date/opening? Company doesn't provide much on it. Also, what neighborhoods would one recommend that would allow at most a 30 min drive to or from the airport (looking at $170 k max)? Thanks for any info you can provide.

The last that I read was that the KGSO FedEx hub should be in operation in the Spring of 2009, but you know how construction projects go.

The building is up and running, and the sign outside says Spring 2009. So that could tell you a lot.

If you moved into the Cardinal area, you would literally be within a mile of the Hub. So you could walk if you wanted!

Default Fed Ex hub

The Fed Ex hub at PTI is an easy 30 minute commute for much of Greensboro and High Point. I read somewhere where many of the jobs there will be part time. Is this correct?

Thanks for input. Will keep eyes and ears open on these forums for more feedback. Since I don't know much about the area I'm depending on all of you to educate me. Thanks again.

30 mins from FedEx is pretty much anything on the west side of Guilford County (including High Point, Jamestown, Greensboro, Colfax) and part of Forsyth county (Kernersville!) AND depending on traffic, could include pretty much all of Guilford County depending on the home's proximity to the highway. Gibsonville proper would be more than 30 mins. The big question is what you are looking for in a home because there are all different kinds within 30 mins. Also, tax wise, you may want to stay outlying areas to cut your property taxes in half.

Good luck!

FedEx Corp. said Friday its new hub at Piedmont Triad International Airport won't open until next fall and will start operations with fewer workers than initially projected.

I am sure you would love Greensboro NC. As far as the status I understand things have slowed down ..... the projected time line has changed and has stretched out to fall of 2009. They have been working steadily on the run ways at the airport. Have a Great New Year!

Easy commute from Winston-Salem as well. You can easily get to the airport area from any part of Winston-Salem in 30 minutes. Even as far west as Clemmons.

You might want to check out Kernersville. 1/2 ways between Greensboro & Winston-Salem and only about 10-15 minutes from the airport area.
