I'm new to Greensboro and will soon be starting school at UNCG. I've been looking for apartments in a safe neighborhood. Is the place around McIver St (close to campus) considered safe? I read from previous posts that some places around the campus are not quite safe. Any opinions?

Yes, McIver Street is safe and a great location if you are going to UNCG. I would not rent anything on the other side of Lee Street if you are still looking around.

If you mean South of Lee, in Glenwood, you should check your crime stats. They are about the same as they are around UNCG.

McIver is cool, just look for a place w/off-street parking. If your still looking, look west.

Spring Place is in a good area, I live right around the corner from it. It's on Spring Garden, approx. 2 miles from UNCG.

I think it's pretty safe for the most part. Of course I kept to myself a lot when I lived on campus (and sometimes left at night). I might look particularly on Mendenhall St and the Walker St area. I don't know if Lee St is all that bad since my family and me broke down in that area once and nobody bothered us. The main thing is to take precautions for safety. That would be true anywhere.
