I will be moving to Greensboro this summer with my wife and 3 year old daughter and was looking for some general information regarding living in the US.
By searching various threads on this site we have noticed that the west and north-west of the city are the nicest areas to live (community feel, low crime etc.) is this true?
We also did a quick search on some rental property websites to have a look for an apartment. It seems that all the apartment blocks are managed complexes with a manager and maintenance team. We don't really have this style of managed apartments here in the UK and we were wondering if this is the only option, or the best option, available. It seems from other forum sites that some people love the complexes and there also are some horror stories so we were wondering the general opinion on these managed-complexes.
Finally, if anybody can recommend any specific apartments for us to have a look at that would be great.
I'm from South London in Croydon and yes the apartments here are very different. I would recommend one of the managed ones although they are expensive they are generally well kept if you find a good one.
Western Greensboro is the nice side, generally the 27409, 27408 and 27407 areas. If you don't mind the commute you can also go for Kernersville or High Point.
The nice thing about the area is purchasing homes. Particularly if you're used to New York or London prices (as I am). You can get yourself a nice 4 bedroom house that's less than 10 years old for less than £90,000
As far as apartments, Palladium Park is kind of pricey but real nice. It's in High Point
NW Greensboro Somerset Village condos on Lawndale are a good choice!
