I just don't trust dealership repair shops. While I'm sure there are many honest dealers out there, I always feel like they're trying to sell me repairs/maintenance that I don't really need, and I find that their prices are usually much higher than the independent shops. So, give us your recommendations for good repair shops (even dealers if you know of good ones), or ones to avoid.
I've owned several Chrysler/Jeep products over the years, and I can heartily recommend J-Medic in Winston-Salem. Good folks, and they've always been straight up with me.
For Honda/Acura, I have also heard good things about GT Imports in Clemmons. Never owned one of these cars so I can't speak from experience, but I know people who will drive clear across the county to use them.
I have used North Point Chrysler (dealership) a few times, but the last time I had my daughter's car in for a warranty repair, they recommended a new battery (at $130!). That was a year ago, and the old battery is still going strong. They also recommended a coolant flush, even though I had done that just a few months prior to bringing it in. I asked why they recommended that, and they mumbled something about the weather. Obviously they were trying to sell me something I didn't need, so I don't plan on using them again.
Well, Curry Tire, on Lee St. where Tate St. intersects, has a complete car care garage, they do great work and stand behind their repairs, I have actually had the actual cost to be less than their initial estimate. when you walk in, ask for Mort and.....it won't get you, or me either, anything extra, but...tell him I said hello. He's a nice guy. I lived in GSO for 20+ years, once I found his shop I never went anywhere else. Kinda like Ambassador Animal Hospital, once I found it, I never took my animals anywhere else. When I find trustworthy people, I quit shopping around.
DO NOT use GT Imports!! They are worse than the dealership about constant need to fix this or that. We own a Insight that has to be taken to a honda specialist and they have cost us a small fortune on repair work. They also mark up the price on parts 100% over the dealership cost.
Jackson Auto Worx on N. Cherry St. and Old Town Auto Works on Reynolda Road do very excellent work on Jeeps. You are wise to avoid North Point Chrysler. I have found that North Point often makes recommendations for costly, yet unnecessary repairs.
