Hi,

I will be moving to Greensboro later this summer and my wife will be arriving a few weeks after me, flying in to either Charlotte or Raleigh (no good direct flights to Gboro from JFK).

I wanted to know what was the easier/better drive from Greensboro to either Charlotte or Raleigh airports. Are there any major construction issues I should be aware of? She will be flying in the first week of August.

Since they are both about the same distance from Greensboro (1.25/1.5 hrs drive), what route would you suggest for a first time traveller?

Ease, Straighforwardness, Convenience, and finally Scenery would be my criteria (in roughly that order).

Thanks in advance!

I live about 25 miles east of Greensboro and I prefer Raleigh. But it's only 50 miles for me. It's right off I-40. Literally. My daughter was just here and by the time she landed and called me, picked up her luggage I was there. Raleigh is about 75 miles east of Greensboro and Charlotte about 110 miles. Although you hit the airports before the actual cities. Also, no construction on the way to Raleigh. Haven't been to Charlotte for a few months but the last time there was construction on the way. Too bad there is in one in Greensboro but it's so expensive to fly into.

Of the two, I would suggest Raleigh. But if she can fly from Newark, NJ (EWR), you can fly Continental and others directly to GSO.

Thank you all very much for your help! I'd def. prefer to fly direct into GSO next time, so I will keep EWR in mind for any future flights.

Huh. I thought the drive down to Charlotte fairly easy and uneventful (until I got into Charlotte that is!) I find the trip to Raleigh fine, but it always takes longer than I think it's going to and it spoils the fun just a little you know? Charlotte also has a new IKEA store, the first in the state! That's tempting for me, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Raleigh. It is much less populated than the drive to Charlotte...plus the airport is West of Raleigh and you don't even go into Raleigh. You have to go right thru Charlotte to get to Charlotte-Douglas.

Good Luck!

Raleigh by far however I check ticket prices and international rates sometimes are cheaper out of charlotte but I do hate the traffic there!

Raleigh...I/40-85 is the best from GSO, it flows and you'll be there in no-time.
