Somebody on WRAL's GOLO forum brought up an excellent point. When the NC DOL needed new desktop computers, how come they didn't get them from Dell???

The next con artist will come along and offer to set up a green technology business, getting tax breaks and the government to payroll it. In a few years they'll close up and you'll be in the same boat again. Only we'll all pay through higher taxes.

The jobs Winston lost are heaed to Mexico and other countries. Dell, just like many companies, opted for cheaper labor to stay competative. What can the US do when 3rd world countries are willing to produce for less?

Reduce the tax burden on companies. It ultimately equates to more jobs/less pass through cost on the products. The only people who really pay taxes are the people who buy the item in the end. Enact the Fairtax!

I guess if I were a large company, I would move to Mexico too! I hate it, but it is much cheaper to run a business there then here!! Sad, but true. I do think Dell has done us dirty. Were they not profiting at all there?

I am devastated for the people who are soon to be without a job. I agree with some that no, Dell did not care about it's employees, it was all about business. This is the case with most large companies. They take their top crew and send them somewhere where there is more opportunity at a better price. Business is business after all. You Apple users don't hate yet..Apple has had their fair share of layoffs as well and SEVERAL more in March..just not here.
