I prefer a vet that actually owns or tends to smaller breeds (under 10 pounds) I know issues are greater with anesthesia & dosing the less they weigh. My 4 pounder is due to be spayed soon and wonder if anyone has had a longterm good relationship with a vet in my area?
This might not be the area you are looking for, but I've used Lake Brandt Veterinary near Church Street & 150, and they were great. Many of my colleagues have gone there for years with their smaller dogs.
not in your area per se but Pointe South Animal Hospital in Randleman is excellent. Dr. Clint knows his stuff and he does everything- dogs, cats, horses, you name it.
I only take my dog to Dr. Schmunk in Lexington at N. Davidson Animal Hospital. I have a 4 lb dog and he is the best. Cost wise he is cheaper than any around and he is the best. I would drive 2 hours if I had to to stay with him. Just last weekend my pup was sick and I was scared to death he was going to die from poisoning and Dr. Schmunk came out at 11 pm to the office to treat him. He is the best-hands down.
You haven't taken your dog to a vet in the past 10 years?
Of course. The vet I use said there are specialist for dogs small breed mine being 6 pounds for anesthesia. I have been with my vet with 3 dogs I have owned. His specialty is not dental care apparently and larger breeds are more his thing.
I don't know. Can your vet make a recommendation? All my dogs are big.
