Texas to Mebane, NC

The commute from Mebane to Greensboro, Durham, and Chapel Hill are good commutes. Alot depends upon what kind of employment you are looking for. Mebane is a nice town to live in as I have done most all of my life. There are many good churches. I disagree that if you live here that you will have to go to Burlington for everything. Mebane maintains a small town atmosphere. We have an excellent police department and an excellent fire department. In the past several years, Mebane has purchased the old post office building and made it the home of the police department. The city also purchased an empty textile mill and converted it to the public library. Recently the city renovated a portion of the old high school into the museum, meeting rooms, and restored the gym. The city hall had been a manufacturing operation and has now been remodeled to a modern state. Yes, a small town. Not anything like a Houston. Expect a more laid back life style.

Though the Orange County may have a better rank overall, people should really look at the schools individually.. Obviously there is more money in Orange County and no doubt have some great schools. Unfortunately these are not the schools that people will be attending that live in Mebane on the Orange County side.. You need to look at the school your child will be zoned for not the whole county in general.. Greatschool.com is an awesome website..
