I think Wawa may be planning to infill the Carolinas and Georgia between their established regions of Virginia and Florida. Probably expanding down the I-95 corridor and some of the coastal regions. With this strategy they should avoid potential overlap with QT, per their alleged agreement. So unless this changes, probably no Wawa coming to Charlotte or the Upstate, but we shall see. The same alleged agreement to avoid overlap between Publix and Harris Teeter has obviously deteriorated somewhere, especially in Charlotte.
Do you honestly believe these companies sat down with each other and made agreements not to enter each others markets? Bull hockey! If one thought they could make money, they would be there.

Exactly. It’s not like CVS and Walgreens have an agreement where they can’t locate across the street from each other. Anybody who thinks these companies have agreements in place where they can’t enter a market because the competition is already there is fooling themselves.

That's why I said "alleged." But I have been told by several QT managers that Wawa and QT mutually choose not to locate within each other's territory, but that could always change, if that is even the case.

And Spinx and QT had the same "agreement". Wawa wont be here any time soon, and it has nothing to do with an agreement.

I agree, as it makes logistical sense for Wawa to expand down the I-95 corridor and the coastal regions, filling in the gaps in the Carolinas and Georgia between their established presence in Virginia and Florida. Although I could possibly see them venturing over to the Triangle in NC.

It would appear QT has targeted Spinx as a direct competitor and has chosen to build a QT store anywhere near Spinx has a store. If there ever was a noncompete arrangement there, it has obviously deteriorated.

QT does this purposefully. Anywhere seen as a “natural disaster liability.” Mainly a la hurricanes (water in general). That’s why so many big cities in Texas have them, but not Houston. Same with Louisiana because of flooding. Though they do often put what they call remote stores in these locations. Like the one in Hardeeville, or the one they’re soon building in Brunswick, GA.
