Moving to the area from Ohio in about a month, and need to find a new bank. What are some of the banks in the area that have enough branches to be convenient, and which ones do you recommend? Anyone have any comments on BB&T? I'd like to avoid Bank of America if possible.
suntrust has great customer service and they have MC for their debits cards which provides better benefits than the normal Visa debit other banks have.
I recommend The Palmetto Bank (HQ in downtown Greenville) and SunTrust (regional HQ in downtown Greenville). Both are excellent banks with plenty of convenient branches in this region.

well now you have me curious, what does mastercard do that visa doesn't?
Just curious as to what is so awful about Bank of America? I love BOA. Everywhere I go, BOA is there But seriously, I am happy with BOA's service.
I can tell you from my point of view why I don't like BOA, but I think my dislike is from a regional standpoint.
Coming from SOFLA BOA is VERY hard to deal with. My DD has her account there, when I take CASH to deposit, I'm asked for my drivers License. Not only that, they no longer have deposit slips for you to fill out if you don't have one. You have to ask for one - you're made to feel like a child, or a possible thief. They say it's due to fraud. What the heck do they think people are going to do with blank deposit/withdrawl slips! You enter the bank, they ask what you're there for - like everyone has to know my business? Really? I have my MC with them and go pay it at the bank. I'm asked if I have a bank account with them, or a debit card - too many questions and none of their business.
Being up here and still having to go there once a month, it's a whole other world. Going to the BOA on WH in Greer is a totally different experience, friendly people, no questions, and deposit and withdrawl slips available, if needed.
So, while it's still a different experience up here, having dealt with BOA for quite a while the way I have, it still has me not wanting to move my "katrillions" there.
Personally, I go for more of a local/regional based bank.
