GHS University Medical Center Hiring Hundreds - Greenville News Story - WYFF Greenville (http://www.wyff4.com/news/25008606/detail.html - broken link)

Looks like GHS will be adding staff in the new budget year. One wonders how many of those will be previously-laid off workers, but still an encouraging sign! On the flip side, they're also instituting a salary freeze effective all the way up to the CEO. At least that's being applied fairly.

I am shocked because that one person on here who claimed to work for GHS said they were doing terrible financially and would continue to lay off people. G-man went against his or her assumptions and turned out to be right once again: GHS to hire hundreds of new workers.

WSPA reported that most of the new jobs will be for physicians and physician's assistants. These tend to be the higher paying jobs. I imagine there will be growing pressure to hire at least some of the students that finish medical school at GHS into the ranks of the staff there. So, probably junior level jobs, I assume.

Other areas of the hospital's staff may be contracting. So both statements could be true.

I assume you are speaking of me, and YES I do work for GHS and the big question the employees are asking that Mr. Riordan did NOT answer in his email to us is this: There are now 214 jobs system wide listed on GHS net ( of which 30 are Physicians and only 38 are registered nurses, the rest are support/housekeeping/etc) , does this 221 INCLUDE these 214 or is it in ADDITION to this 214. Someone has emailed the CEO in "Ask the CEO" that is available to employees and we should have an answer soon.

So I suggest, if you don't work for GHS and you claim that your mother does, don't assume something if you don't know all the facts. You know what "assume" does...

Yes, encouraging that more positions will be hired. However, it is not clear what the attrition rate is. With 7,200 employees, GHS hiring 221 would only account for a turnover of 3%. It might actually be greater than that.

What is not encouraging is the salary freeze for the 7,200 current employees. You might even be able to say that they are taking the raises (sometimes 3-4% annually) and using those funds to hire the 3% of the workforce. Many of which may be replacements for retirees and other turnover.

While those things may be true, this is certainly a better situation than if they were eliminating those positions!
