This is no surprise, considering the gorgeous Furman University campus in Greenville County has been declared one of the most beautiful places (campus or not) in the nation numerous times over the years by such organizations as The American Society of Landscape Architects.

This is a good example, I think, of beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Furman indeed has a lovely campus, and I enjoy taking walks around the lake there. But, I don't think I would vote for it being the twelfth prettiest school in the country. I've visited a lot of the schools on this list (over 25%), and even attended one of them, and I have to say, I think many of the schools ranked lower than Furman are prettier. Maybe I just prefer more classical and gothic architecture. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Also, I kind of wonder- who makes up these lists? Do the people writing them even visit the schools? The main picture used in the description of the school I attended isn't even of the school, but rather of an off campus building. Oops! Makes me wonder about the editorial standards/decisions used in the rest of the article.
Anyway, this post isn't in any way meant to disparage Furman; like I said, I think it has a lovely campus. I just think that a topic like this is SO subjective, that it's hard to read much into the rankings.

Far be it from me to question the judgement of folks whose business it is to know colleges and their settings. I'm just sayin'...

And who are these "folks?" Do you know? What are their/his credentials? How did he, uh, they come up with these results? What was the methodology? A reputable source will say how they, I mean he came up with his results.
Because you own a URL doesn't mean you know a dang thing about anything. It means you own a URL, and probably are trying to get people to click onto your website. I'm just sayin'...
EDIT:
A few minutes more research reveals this guy owns sites (including this one) that all direct you to private, for-profit Universities as "the Best." Did you know that according to this site (thebestcolleges.org) that the best IT school in the U.S. for web design is Westwood College? A private for-profit school currently under investigation by the Colorado Attorney General AND the Texas Workforce Commission for financial aid fraud! Really? That's "the Best?" What a joke. Because something is posted on the Internets doesn't make it true.
