I can't remember the last time I even heard of a crime like this occuring downtown: Greenville police investigate downtown stabbing - FOX Carolina - WHNS 21 - Greenville News and Weather Odd for sure. My guess is that an argument between two drunk people occurred possibly outside of Rey's.

Wow, that sucks. I'm there a lot, especially at night. Hopefully it's an isolated event.

We need to know details of events like this. It makes a WORLD of difference as to whether this was a random crime (not good for downtown), or if the victim and assailant knew one another (still bad, but not an indicator of increased violence in general).

I have a feeling that it's probably the latter.

From Greenvilleonline.com: "Authorities believe the victim and another man got into a verbal argument which escalated into the assault."

The story goes on to say that police believe the incident is isolated and not gang related.

Usually this site has a pay wall, but for some reason I was able to read the story for free.

A tweet from a friend about the stabbing:

Quote:
After I tell Jo that there was a stabbing on Main St. tonight.
Me: "We're becoming like a big city now!"
In unison: "YAY!"
I don't feel that way at all, but it did bring a chuckle.

Every city has crime, so I wouldn't get too excited.

I don't want to encourage any more of this behavior so I'll be careful what I say. I come from one of the most violent places per-capita in the country, and let's just say that the evening crowd downtown would not do to well in some other parts of the country. I really hope our police force is aware that the security requirements of main st are going to be changing drastically over the next few years.
