Due to working too many long hours this week, I was deeply asleep this afternoon when a woman knocks on my door. She was asking for money to pay for her daughters funeral. She said her daughter drown on Friday. So gave her a small donation. Then I tried to find a story on the internet, but I did not find anything. Now I'm hoping I was scammed.
I haven't heard of anything, but that doesn't mean it's not true. Even if you were scammed, at least you were trying to do the right thing. Perhaps in the future if this happens (hopefully never again), make a donation directly to the funeral home or something.
Exactly. Either it was a horrible situation in which you helped ease the pain of, or it was one of the lowest points in someone's life that they had to scam people using that story. What a terrible situation, either way, although you're right - hopefully it's not the loss of her child.
I haven't seen it in the online paper. I think you were scammed. I would call the Police and ask them about it and inform them what happened. Yes, you will look like a fool, BUT we all get fooled by someone sometime or other.
You have a good heart, Witton. I would report it to the Police just so that they can keep an eye out for her in your area. I'll remember that tip about the funeral home. I would have been caught off guard and sympathetic as well. It's a shame because good people who truly need help don't get donations because of scammers out there.
