I'm looking for information about the Greenville Hospital System's Department of Pediatrics Developmental-Behavioral Department (located off Pelham and Patewood Road). Specifically, my elementary school-aged child was referred there to see a specialist about a possible ADHD diagnosis.

We've already been waiting several months to be seen (which, I had been warned that the wait would be long) but other than that- I am wondering if anyone else on this board has had any experiences with this practice that would feel comfortable giving me an honest opinion about the place.

We have had a good experience with them. They are very nice and very thorough. The wait is long to get an appointment. Ours was a little shorter due to a cancellation (4 months instead of 6 months).

Our biggest issue is that although they contacted our insurance regarding the appointment to receive pre-approval, once a diagnosis was made the insurance company would not cover it. Since they do not have any MD's on staff, the diagnosis is not considered medical. I would suggest checking with your insurance company so that you are prepared for this. You may also want to pursue ADHD with a medical doctor for this reason.

I'll try to check that out. It was our pediatrican that first diagnosed our son with ADHD and he referred him to the GHS's Pediatrics Developmental-Behavioral Department for more testing. We had tried to get it done through the school first (as the pediatrician advised), but the school refused to test him.
