I just read all seven pages of the thread that was closed on the Unitarian Universalist congregation. Just getting back to the OP: Thank you for posting. My family moved here from "up north" a few months back. It was probably a mistake, but we're here, determined to make the best of it. (For those who will jump to write, "If you don't like it here, just move," it's not easy to find jobs in my field, so please spare me the knee-jerk.) We used to be UU members, but we drifted away due to busy lives, etc. I knew that there was a UU congregation in Spartanburg, but we haven't visited. Had there only been an invitation to attend services, I probably would not have followed through. But having read all of the bitter comments by several people on this site, I can't wait to attend services and renew my family's membership in the UU Association. So thank you to the OP, but more than that, thank you to the uninformed responders who gave me reason to wake up out of my self-pitying stupor and get back into the game! By the way, the thing that I like about Unitarian Universalism is that rather than having all members follow a particular spiritual path, it's about how congregations help each member develop his/her own spiritual path. At least, that's what I got out of it, and that works for me. Oh yeah, almost forgot: Thomas Jefferson--principle writer of the Declaration of Independence--wrote high praises of Unitarians and attended the UU church in Philadelphia. (Jefferson espoused no single religion, however, and attended various churches--UU in approach, but not in name.)

I hope you and your family feel welcomed, energized, and fulfilled there.
If you feel like reporting back, that would be great. I'd also welcome a DM, if you prefer.

As I mentioned in the original, now-closed thread, my family is considering a move to the Greenville/Spartanburg area sometime next year, and I think a UU congregation would be a definite plus for us.

FYI, the thread wasn't closed, it was moved to the Religion forum by one of the moderators. The forum TOS reads: "...Threads dealing with controversial topics that often degenerate into flame wars, such as politics or religion, may be moved, closed, or deleted by moderators at their discretion without any warning to the participants."
