Liquid Highway in the last few years had big ambitions for rapid expansion. I guess that didn't work out so well. I hate to see businesses close, too, but when the quality of the product decreases, people will go elsewhere. It's simple.
interestingly enough thats exactly what happened to the last coffee shop to be in that space downtown. There are plenty of places to get a good cup of coffee in that area, and I can imagine the rent in that building must be astronomical(didn't quiznos close down too?) anyway for a good cup of joe, try coffee underground!

The disappointing thing is that I personally only went to LH for their frozen mochas, and I haven't yet found any other coffee place that offers one as good. If anyone knows of another place with a similar product, please let me know, just in case all other LH locations disappear.

I second that. Coffee Underground is my favorite downtown coffee shop. My wife and I go there at least once or twice a week (would be more if we lived closer), and we buy our coffee beans there, too.
I actually tried Coffee Underground for the first time just a few days before Liquid Highway closed. It's a nice place, but part of what drew me to Liquid Highway was the location -- on Main Street instead of below it. Aside from Starbucks and Spill the Beans, are there any other coffee shops on Main Street?

Aside from the three you mentioned, 'Joel's Java,' 'Rainer's,' and 'Dutch Treat' (assuming it is still open) are the only additional options on Main Street that I can think of right now, but walk a few extra steps and enjoy 'Coffee to a Tea' in the West End Market, 'Brew & Ewe' in Poinsett Corners, 'Luna Rosa' on West Washington Street, or 'O-CHA Tea Bar' in RiverPlace.

just out of curiosity, whats the difference? the windows?
The windows and the tables out front. Coffee Underground has a few tables outside, but they're down the steps and below street level. It's not an unpleasant experience to sit out there by any means, but I initially chose Liquid Highway because of the option to sit on Main Street or in the courtyard out back. I do a lot of work from coffee shops, so it was nice having a view of the activity outside.
I think the real reason why Liquid Highway on main st closed is that they were too nice to stay in business.
That liquid highway spot was where a great deal of homeless people hung out during the day and the people who worked there even seemed to encourage them.
None of them ever harassed you for money or anything while there and I think it must have been part of the deal with management. I have no idea why that place really closed but I know traffic from paying customers suffered for this reason.
It is a shame because I really think they were just trying to help people, but it does not really make for the best environment for customers.
I agree. I really appreciated their kindness to the less fortunate, but it was definitely a barrier when there was a constant group of homeless people smoking at those tables next to the front door...
Maybe they will be able to re-open in the Hyatt after renovations?
