Not major in a general sense, but certainly major in para-cycling circles. :P

I kind of expected the announcement to say the SuperBowl was coming to Greenville. The World Series at the very least.
When I have to Google it to find out what it is .... I am with the 'not so major' crowd.
But .... good news is good news. It just keeps coming.

I was expecting the Olympics or FIFA World Cup.
Oh and this will be the first time Greenville has ever hosted a world sporting championship event.

Sorry but a tournament that draws hundreds of riders from over 50 countries around the world and has a $4.5 million economic impact is considered major in my opinion.

I'm excited about the additional cycling exposure for the City, not only from the outside, but also from the residents who live here. Making people more aware and used to their presence goes a long way towards safety.

C'mon now. You need to put things into perspective. The closest Greenville will ever benefit from a Superbowl is if Charlotte ever hosts it (overflow). Last time I checked, the Drive is not in the MLB (but could host a minor league championship). So when I first read gman's post, I did not expect the Superbowl or World Series to happen here.
Cycling first came to mind...and that's what we are getting. Bravo Greenville!

An article I read says officials expect it to have a $4.5 million impact on the local economy.

Charleston is hosting the PGA Championship.
Like cycling...I dont consider golf a "sport", so neither are big sports news.

You think I REALLY expected the Superbowl or World Series? I mean ......... really?
But still, when I have to Google the term Paracyclying, that ain't MAJOR. I thought it had to do something with riding bicycles off a cliff and then opening a parchute (or sumpin like that).
To be fair .... the word major originated with the reporter that made the headline in the link. Not to say the media is prone to hyperbole.
