In this particular case, the word "major" actually originated with The City of Greenville when the press conference was first officially announced. The Para-cycling World Championship may not equate to the definition of "major" for most people, but from a local perspective it is impressive and a great honor.

I agree this is a "major event" for Greenville however it is not a "major sport event"... Still good news but Greenville has the capacity to host major sports... we have hosted NCAA basketball tourny opening round games.. and have the capacity to host a major golf event with the cliffs at glassy. Guess I was hoping for a "major sport" versus major event..
So it comes down to semantics.
Oh well still good news

Cycling first came to mind...and that's what we are getting. Bravo Greenville!

This is a big deal.
Maybe not a Joe Biden big "effin" deal, but it's big. I had the opportunity to work with the U.S. Paralympic Ski Team, as well as the U.S. ski team. These are extremely talented, world-class athletes. And with so many guys and gals coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan with disabilities (not "cripple," good lord), adaptive sports will only become bigger in this country, imo.
I encourage everyone to go. This isn't the Special Olympics. Most of these folks could probably kick all your butts up and down the road all day long.

Outstanding. And if folks don't consider this "major," then at least it continues to get the city of Greenville, SC recognized. Think about it -- only 20 years ago we never would have had a national anything. Every new event just points to bigger and better.
OK, the nationally televised "Styx-Improv on Ice" at the Bi-Lo Center may have set us back a bit, but that's not the point! <grin>

Too funny. Yeah, I recently got an email form the Bi-lo center announcing "BASSNECTAR" is going to be here.
Not sure how to pronounce the first syllable - like the instrument or the fish. I imagine the instrument, but I prefer the fish myself. Makes you think what the heck that could be...bass nectar? Can you get it at Trader Joe's?
Apologies to any BASSNECTAR fans out there...
