The sewer charges are ridiculous and looks like they are going up again. The thing that irked me was in December we got the bill for like 60 days and the base charge for the sewer was like for a whole quarter. They didn't prorate it for the 60 days and had to rebill. How do you miss something like that? They should have looked at everything and asked themselves if it made sense.
Actually, this is the first place I've lived that did it quarterly (3 states, 8 cities). It wasn't too bad, if we could, we set aside money every month in estimation for the bill, so the 3 month bill didn't hurt much when it came around. Monthly is more of a normal thing for us, and of course the bill is not as much since it's just for a month, so it works for us.
I agree. I don't mind it monthly. At least you know when its coming. I tend though to like paying auto insurance every 6 months vs. quartely or monthly so I don't have to look at it every month. Once its paid you don't have to worry about it for a while as long as you set aside the money for it.
Prefer monthly; if my pipes spring a leak its going to be less costly. In the summer our bills were over $300/qtr; that's a shock to a budget of less than $1,000/mo.
They only split it up monthly so they could charge more. Since we moved here @ 10 years ago the water bill is 3 times as much now as it was then. It's BS!
You could always try the Ted Kaczynski approach and move into a one room shack with no running water. Be realistic, the price of nearly everything has gone up - (Wheat, corn, oil, etc. 70% in the last year) It doesn't matter if it is 1 month or 3 months....budget.
And remember the old saying, "Despite the high cost of living, it remains popular."
We only had one of the quarterly bills before going monthly. In both FL and OK we paid monthly (to multiple different city or county departments over the years.), so it seems more normal to us.
The water department will make a killing on late fees. Used to only get 4 of those a year, now they are likely to get 12 x 7.50 if I can't get some more money coming in!
