I am curious if anyone on here might know some of the job possibilities that may be available to a machinist. My father has over 30 years experience working with manual operation machinery. Most of his career he worked rebuilding GIANT fluid pumps.
FWIW he has worked for ITT goulds pumps and Pumping solutions.
Try Job Search | one search. all jobs. Indeed.com - I just did a search and there are a few jobs for machinists, although I know nothing of the various types. It's a legitimate search engine for jobs - I found a great job here using it. Good luck.
If I read this right there are machinist jobs listed on this article Need A Job? Check Out These Upcoming Job Fairs - Greenville News Story - WYFF Greenville (http://www.wyff4.com/news/30444157/detail.html?qs=9 - broken link)
In the right profession with the right skills many won't have trouble finding work here. They should do fine when they come down here.
He'll have no trouble finding a job, here. I started out doing precision machining and then went on to earn a degree in engineering, back in NY. Plenty of contract companies around here, many of them good places to work for from what I hear, plus some larger firms like Bosch out in Fountain Inn. A little further out in the country there's Sandvik, the famous Swedish company. They have a nice plant out in Westminster, and they usually have the help wanted sign up because nobody wants to relocate out to Westminster
If I remember correctly Goulds is in Seneca Falls, NY, my old stomping grounds (I'm from Rochester). Lots of Rochester folks around here, these days, in fact it seems like we bump into lots of folks from that area at the Zweigle's hot dog cart on Main St. in Greenville every summer.
Thanks all for your help! I have a feeling they will definitely want to move here once they come help me move. Very good to hear about the machining jobs!
We are moving to Greenville because my husband's job is transferring us to that general area. My husband is a Service Engineer who works on metal working machines and his company has sold several hundred of them in the area surrounding Greenville. They are suggesting Greenville because he travels to fix machines and they are saying he will be home most nights once we move there. Currently we live in northern Alabama and he is NEVER home. I'd think your dad would have no problems finding somewhere to work in that area.
