Link to form you would need to claim damage (http://www.scdot.org/public/pdfs/DamageClaimForm.pdf - broken link) I had to use this when an errant hard plastic cone in the middle of the road destroyed my mirror during night work on 85
The SCDOT has failed so miserably (yet again) on this project that I now completely avoid the section of southbound I-85 between S.C. 14 and Pelham Road. I take S.C. 14 (southwest) to Pelham Road (northwest) to I-85. The thick dust cloud alone, which literally causes visibility in that immediate area to diminish significantly, is bad enough to sue the SCDOT for damage to personal health. I hope someone is documenting this fiasco in detail. Some of the same problems happened during I-85 construction in Northern Anderson County a few years ago, but I don't recall the "worse-than-a-washboard" surface roughness.
Something should be done to stop this health hazard before they move into the city portion of I-85 (south of the I-385 interchange). I see the early signs that work is imminent.
The one time I brave 85 from Spartanburg on Wednesday, and it happened to me, too! I was so mad, but there was nothing I could do except take the next exit. Snap, crack, pop goes the windshield.
