Right off Highway 11 in the foothills of the mountains.

We've got close to a million folks in the Upstate MSA, so why the heck not? It would be a great tourist attraction, first and foremost. I've thought this for decades - a "family destination" would be a fantastic draw for the upstate. Why not a HUUUUGE water park? Why not a theme park? Shoot, even Maggie-bleeping-Valley, NC has a theme park!

So there's Six Flags and Carowinds. Atlanta and Charlotte. They wouldn't even flinch if we got our own park. And, we don't have to do exactly what they do, right?

There are dozens of other "theme parks" that also have their own nich, and, almost as an afterthought, some roller coasters, etc. Heck, we could even make a roller coaster theme park with the world's largest assortment. Or farris wheels, or bumper cars, or those spinning octopus things that insure instant vomiting. ANYTHING. How about the world's largest and most advanced animal park this side of the Serengeti?

And where to put it? Just about anywhere outside of Greenville City limits. There is "land spreadin' out so far and wide," as the TV song once said.

All we need, then, is a little imagination and a few spare hundreds of millions of dollars. Easy.

Hopefully they don't put a amusement park around Greenville. Atlanta and Charlotte is close enough...thank you very much.

Why are people so anxious to cut trees and put up amusement parks, big shopping stores, etc. on our pristine land? I love the Greenville area because of the area and pretty country. That would be awful to get the area around Hwy 11 populated with tourists and crowds and commercialism.

That's where zoning and landscaping/drainage ordinances come into play. I do believe that growth is necessary to avoid economic asphyxia, but I believe in healthy, smart (and attractive) growth.

A full-blown amusement park is not needed in the Upstate. There are major upsides of relocating the Greenville Zoo which sits on 14 acres. Family Kingdom sits on 13 acres in MB and has 30 rides, so something like it could fit in the Zoo's vacated space.

There is no admission charge to Family Kingdom...either pay per ride or pay $25 for unlimited rides. People could access the Swamp Rabbit Trail to Falls Park and downtown. Maybe have pedicabs or bicycle rickshaws to ferry people between the park and downtown. Would make for a great tourist attraction.

Fantastic idea! Now, that I could whole-heartedly support (and it would be such a "Greenville" way to do it, too!).

I like the idea of the bicycle rickshaw on the swamp rabbit. This would give maybe those that are disabled or unable to do the trail themselves, to get outdoors and experience it.

Also if you're going to do something, maybe put some zip lines somewhere along the swamp rabbit or even build a natural looking area for rock climbing. Make Greenville a fun outdoorsy place. Put some picnic areas along the trail too.

Oh, Upstatebooster, all I can say is thank goodness we have zoning laws. :-)

I think if people want to see a zoo, they will go to Columbia.

I see the Duet Wheelchair out on the Swamp Rabbit trail near the Woodlands at Furman. Several volunteers take the residents out for rides at times.
