This was/is a great thread. Most of the places here I remember but in different places. I thought the Shoneys was on Laurens Rd, near 85. Someone said near Bob Jones. YE Ole Fireplace I remember, didn't see it mentioned. Duffs Smorgasbord, Hawaiian Gardens, the HoJo. McCallister Square catching fire, as Pat mentioned Woodruff being one lane, from Woodruff all the way to Laurens. Im sure I could remember more if I sat here and thought some more.

I think "South Park" got the idea for their new season from this thread.. "Oh yeah, I 'member"..

But.. Shoney's was here, I believe.. https://goo.gl/maps/ozLTdabxdW82

I recall it being right next to Pecknel Music, so that vacant lot should be the right space.

There was a gas station on the corner of Cleveland St and Pleasantburg back in the early 90's.

The old "Triangle Amoco" and Dixie restaurant where Pleasantburg and Augusta met. Used to be a Hardee's there, too before they redid the road.

The Holiday Inn there at Augusta and 85 was one of the, probably 5 nicest hotels in Greenville.

The Park Inn (And it was some other name before that) at 85 and White Horse. My understanding is that is some kind of residential treatment place or something now.. There was a phillips 66 station with a diner that had the greatest greasy food at 2am.

Wedgy's pizza.. Not sure if they're still around or not.

Someone mentioned the Zaxby's mansion on Laurens.. The company I work for now was actually in that location before it became Zaxby's. I 'member going to that Zaxby's quite a bit before it was demolished and rebuilt.. it was like their 2nd or 3rd unit and they were playing with the concept.. They sold beer, had pool tables, etc.

Must have been a Big Boy. Right where Steve White is now. I remember the Big Boy out front, and thought it was a Shoneys Big Boy. Duffs was right behind there, or beside it.

Your memory isn't failing you. There were indeed two Shoney's Big Boys in Greenville, back then. One at each of the two locations you've mentioned.

I'm recalling things that were here much further back.

Shakey's Pizza on Pleasantburg,
The huge auto wrecking yard where Pepboys is located.
Johnson motor freight's terminal was just across from where Hooters is located
A&P transport was at Ackley and Laurens rds.
Value Station at E. North and Pleasantburg and one at West Lee and Wade Hampton
Augusta Rd Drive in
Cedar Lane Drive in
Hwy 29 Drive in (adult movies)
White Horse Drive in
Belmont Drive in on Wade Hampton
The original Fork Restaurant in Greer
Kash and Karry Grocery on Buncombe st.
Sears Roebuck on Stone Ave
Pet Dairy at Wade Hampton and Stone Ave
Cork and Cleaver Steak house on Haywood
Haywood ended at top of the hill at Pelham Rd (a lonely two lane country rd.)
Steak and Ale on Pleasantburg
Donaldson Air Force Base
Union Carbide
George the Train running at McPherson Park
The Amazing metal Christmas tree with programmed color lights at Hollingsworth's entrance (1960's)
Texize Cleaner Plant in Mauldin was forever launching huge clouds of foam into the air.
Her Majesty Sewing Plant was every local girls source of undies and pajamas
Eckard Drugs was king
Blue Circle Hamburgers
Dixie Home Stores sold out to Wren and Syracuse and later became Bi-Lo
Winn Dixie Warehouse on Wade Hampton
TG&Y variety store in Taylors
Sky City Stores
Piggly Wiggly
United 5 and 10 cent stores
Tanners Hot Dogs on Main St.
Getting into the movies with RC bottle caps with the Diamond under the cork seal
Getting Free RC colas with the same red diamonds.
Greenville General Hospital near Anderson Rd, Down town.

I'm suddenly feeling rather old... so I'll have to stop

There were more than two Shoney's in Greenville. There was also one on Orchard Park Drive just past Outback on the right. Still there as part of whatever motel is operating there now. Also a Shoney's on White Horse Rd/ 85 exit. That building is still there as well.

S&S Cafeteria at Haywood Mall in the entrance between Macy's (then Rich's) and Sears across from current Palmetto Moon.
The original (small) Circuit City in the late 80's on Pleasantburg near the lighting store before they moved to Laurens Rd.

Dixie Home Stores was acquired by Winn & Lovett. The consolidated entity became Winn-Dixie. BI-LO acquired Winn-Dixie in 2011. Both banners are under the Southeastern Grocers umbrella.

I remember the ones Ive put in bold, although I dont remember much about the Ft Inn racetrack (OOppss, FTN INN racetrack). Wasnt Meyers Arnold kinda like Belks? Seems like I remember getting some Boy Scout stuff their. I know we got most of it at Belks in Laurens, but seems like Belks was out of something and we had to go to Meyers Arnold.
