I'm looking for places to go tubing on a river near Greenville, SC but not with a tour company. Does anyone know of river access points with legal parking to the public? I've been looking into the Saluda River.
I've been down the Section III and IV 2 times each. The section III is fun, good for your first time rafting and fine for younger kids.. The section IV is intense. Good for adrenaline junkies.
I don't know, we use to just grab our tubes, a few beers, hit a river somewhere, and hope he didn't have any problems. Someone would always meet us a few miles away with a pickup and we'd all pile in and ride back to our cars.
Make sure you know that we don't have "tubing" in Greenville. We have lazy river tube floating (saluda) but don't confuse that with actual tubing on rapid rivers.

Those sections of the Saluda are pretty flat and boring. If you want to rent a tube on a river with some rapids, it's probably worth the drive up to Green River Cove outside of Saluda, NC.
If you have your own tubes and a sense of adventure, there are many small streams in the mountains of SC that might work. It has been dry this spring, though, so many of them will likely be pretty low.

Yes.. That's the reason i'm looking at that.. Just a lazy, leisurely float down the river.. Not looking for anything big with a 10 year old.. I took him on section III of the Chattooga 2 years ago, and it was a bit more than he liked..
13 year old is ready to go down the Section IV of the Chattooga.. Not sure if I'll do that this year or wait for next with him.
Certain sections of the French Broad would be great for tubing. There are a few sections, however, with Class III and IV rapids that wouldn't be very suitable.
I think for what the OP mentioned, the Lower Green would be ideal - pretty tame overall with just enough to keep it from being boring for a kid in that age range.
