Regarding spinal disc decompression therapy, is this a viable nonsurgical alternative to back surgery for herniated disc? Sciatica? Any local reviews or recommendations? Not sure about chiropractic treatments, and looking at options in Greenville.
It really depends on what the underlying issue is. If it's a large lateral disc herniation on the nerve, usually surgery is actually best.
Your best bet is to go to a reputable surgeon, and by "reputable" I mean someone that can look at your symptoms, with the MRI, and assure you that either a) it's a problem that surgery can fix or b) surgery won't fix the problem and you should explore other treatments.
I say this as an NP that has both worked for a neurosurgeon group and also had a microdiskectomy (which was the best thing I've ever done, since I really had no choice). You might think surgeons are going to always lean towards surgery, but they don't. If the pathology doesn't match the symptoms you have, 99/100 times they won't do the surgery, because it won't fix the problem and you will be an unhappy patient. Unhappy patients talk to other patients, as well as sue the surgeon. They want to avoid both scenarios if at all possible.
I am having MRI done at GHS and will see their neurosurgeon regarding herniated disc/sciatica. If therapy is suggested before surgery option, I was just wondering if the disk decompression machine was a good possibility. Some folks are wary of chiropractic solutions.
