the weather is just gorgeous. i don't miss snow, snowstorms, long long winters and blink and it's gone summers.
and the list ends here.
just a month into moving here, i have hit the all time low. every doctor office i call (specialists) have a year waiting list. went to an internal doctor today, asked her to refer me to a specialist (explained what my ailment is) and the bright doctor (with diplomas hanging on the walls says) why don't we cure your "" (ailment)? yeah, sure thing sherlock, considering there is no cure. i couldn't get out of the office fast enough.
kids started public school, and i waited for homework. remember homework? probably not, as it looks like homework these days takes about 5 minutes a night. school books don't get sent home for kids to study. alright, still hopeful, i ask at least for the math workbook to be sent home so that i can make my own tests for the kids. reply? we don't use math workbooks.
Contacted the sterling center and was told there is a two year waiting list for the grade i need, so even though my child qualifies, we can't get in because there is a waiting list.
has anyone contacted SC dept. of education and looked into why school curriculum is so underdeveloped? Has anyone ever wondered if schools can do better for our kids? I may totally be out of line, and i so hope things aren't as they seem, but is this enough for you guys (you whose kids go to public schools?). If it is not good enough, what have you done?
Yes, my option is sending my kids to a private school, and we may as well do that, but i cannot be in the minority regarding education. or am i?
SC is ranked 49th out of our 50 states for education. But you seem like a smart person, and can take responsibility for making sure your kids are well educated.
There are a lot of resources out there to help you- just don't depend on someone else to educate you kin in this state.

could you point out some resources available please
Or you could homeschool, as I did my son in HS. We have a pretty good school system here, but it didn't meet his needs. I would bet there is an active homeschooling network in the Upstate area.
We homeschool. That may not be an option for you, but if it is something you want to look into, there is a huge network in the Upstate. We made sure we lived in a district with the best public schools in the area in case homeschooling ever becomes something we can't do for whatever reason. But for now, it works great, and we are in control of our kids' education. I'm surprised to hear that your kids don't have much homework, though- when my friends tell me how much homework their public schooled children have, I'm always surprised the large amount. I know it differs from school to school, though. There are also online virtual schools- K12 is one that comes to mind. Overall, schools in SC are terrible, but there are good ones in the Upstate. I'm not sure which ones your kids go to, and I realize even our best schools may be lacking, depending on where you moved from. Good luck. I know it must be a frustrating situation.
Sorry to hear about this. My wife and I moved down here about five years ago and havent run into any of these problems. Different strokes I guess. Just curious, where does your child go to school?
I have 3 kids that go to Sara Collins Elementary (just south of downtown Greenville) - 3rd grade, 2nd, and kindergarten. My 3rd grader just prior to Christmas had 4 tests one day and an unbelievable amount of studying the days prior. My 2nd grader has had several recent projects due and weekly tests. They all have homework after school and can last upwards of an hour.
Yes, as asked above, what school do your kids go to? what grades?
As for physicians, there are countless primary care practices in Greenville - join Angie's List and obtain some recommendations.
If you ever look at Catholic schools in South Carolina, then you should definitely consider Saint Joseph's in Greenville. If you are willing and able to invest more financial wealth, then Christ Church Episcopal School is easily among the best anywhere.
