Why change the name from Freedom Weekend Aloft to Aloft!!?? Come on folks, this is/was a celebration to honor the time in and around Memorial Day. I considered this a celebration honoring those who served as well as a community event. Freedom!! IMHO, the name change leaves me at a loss. If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Can this be called another "Politically Correct" name change to satisfy someone? I don't get it.

According to organizers, the attendance has been falling, and they wanted to re-brand the festival and create a "cooler" image. It will still be the same patriotic celebration, according to them. I personally don't think the name change alone will do it, but there you go.

Very silly to change the name. If they want to beef up attendance, bring in some better musical acts and get some kind of food going on other than "carnie" food.

Or, provide a free shuttle service for those who don't want to deal with parking. Parking hassles and costs keeps me away from those types of events.

They could do what they've done with Christmas; Holiday Aloft.

It might actually change things if any of you volunteer to help. Instead you get online to complain....about the name?! And the food? All of that is decided by volunteer committee----it's not like you couldn't have a voice.

They're trying to raise more money than ever before, and for a great cause with CDS, helping children, helping families. The goal is explicitly to get better musical acts BY raising more money, and part of that includes changing the business model and the branding. If you were at the press event or participated in any of the all-volunteer committees you would see the name change is incidental and the festival coordinators have so many things to worry about rather than worry whether anyone likes the branding and name change or not. The name change isn't going to stop people from coming, but it is already helping to raise more money. You say it's been the same for 30 years, and you're right-----a lot of the people who are helping make these changes have been making the festival happen every year for the past 30+ years.

There's a huge need for support. If honoring our troops is that important to you, volunteer to help make the festival better. It's fun, and it's helping a lot of people do a lot of important things. The festival needs so much help to work, and this year it will be bigger than ever. To be honest I am surprised the name change didn't make more people optomistic about how much better the festival will be, but instead all I see here are complaints from people who could be working with the festival to make it better. They are having an improved selection of food, bigger bands, even better beer. Come see for yourself. Contact the board and ask how you can help with the festival.

Maybe if they put the word out that they need more volunteers then they would get some. I'm sure many people on here and around the community (myself included) had no idea it was even run by volunteers. Instead of jumping on everyones case, take a breather and inform people without all the tude!
