That makes sense.
And Metropolitan Greenville ranks at/or near the bottom of the Transit Poll:

Yes, on transit, Greenville along with Columbia, and to a degree Charleston rank poorly. Notice most poor ranking cities on transit are in the Southeast. Most people in the Southeast are simply not willing to pay more in taxes to support what they see as "welfare" transit systems. Sad but true.

Here's something different. Look at Monaghan Mill Condos off Cedar Lane Road. Condos built in an old mill. The neighborhood is still a bit sketchy but it is literally moments from Downtown by the Swamp Rabbit Trail. That would get to to the grocery, drug store, etc. I've never been in one, nor do I know anyone who lives there but it is just a suggestion.

The common name for these condos is "The Lofts of Greenville". The people I know who lived there loved it, with the only caveat that noises of people coming in late at night (early morning) on weekends tended to echo on the hard floors and walls.

The best bus stop is about .4 miles away:

Trip from Lofts of Greenville to Haywood Mall

Interesting. I had not heard of that property before.

Have I got the address right: 201 Smythe St. ?
It gets a Walkscore of 36 : "A few amenities are within walking distance"

Website: Luxury Loft Apartments in Greenville, SC

The Lofts of Greenville - chic loft living-
A special fusion of an historic textile mill meeting fancy, upscale apt living. Only moments from Greenville's pleasant in the city, shopping & area attractions, you will experience the serenity of an special mountain view while having the ease of a urban locale. Striking features come with a on-site workout heart, expansive outside pool w/ grill area, hammocks & an lawn, impressive theater rm & several courtyards for grilling & relaxing.

I wonder if the windows are double-glazed, and if not, if there is a heating cost issue.

I cannot find anything for sale now there - thru Zillow.

That's correct. The Swamp Rabbit Cafe & Grocery is within walking distance, and being next to the Swamp Rabbit Trail is a plus if you get around by bike.

They'd be new windows because they were bricked up for years. I think this area will one day, in the not too distant future, be a good place to have invested.

i think those Lofts have poor bad reviews on apartment ratings. they are definitely way overpriced, and i guarantee their AC units can't handle the heat load that results from those large glass windows in every unit.

I believe they're all apartments for rent, not for sale.

Good thing you used the phrase "most cities", Columbia just agreed to raise the sales tax partially to fund transit and Charlotte votoers agreed twice to raise the sales tax for transit, light rail, street car and buses. If I remember correctly, you had many posts here and other places about the welfare state of transit. Successful cities in the future will have an element of transit, Charlotte and Columbia are leading the way here in the Carolinas.
