We will be moving, without the benefit of family & friends in the area. For the home search where do I begin to look. I like the privacy & land that Travelers Rest offer, but then more isolated & harder to meet people.
Been looking at houses Mauldin--appears you get alot for the money. See many foreclosures in the area. Any idea why?
Looking for 3 bdrm ranch(no steps after 9 knee operations).
Would like to be close to a facility where I can lap swim.
View is important. Not interested in some of this track housing that offers no privacy & all the houses look alike. I saw some homes near Paris Mt----some had a great view of the Mts.
Should I try a place like Taylor or Greer?
Would like to be close to shopping.
Any suggestions GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Taylors or Greer would put you very close to a lot of shopping but let me offer a suggestion. What stores do you shop at now? Check their websites to see where or if they are located around town. We wanted to be near Kmart so we chose Mauldin. Mauldin also offers a short cut to the heavily congested Woodruff Rd. and that's served me well in the 10 years we've been here.

Northern Taylors or Travelers Rest will get you mountain views, land, and privacy, but there are less amenities. What is your definition of shopping? For me, as long as there's a super market, Tractor Supply, and Lowe's, I'm set. I rarely need to venture down to Woodruff for more diverse shopping. I'd rather shop online.

As for making friends, I have found just the opposite, with folks out in the country being friendlier than those in cities. We already have a good circle of friends, despite not being official residents yet. We 'cheat' by attending a church regularly, though.

Everyone has different wants and needs. For us, having acreage, privacy, and views trumps the need for city amenities. We're 15 miles north of Greenville, but can be on Main Street in half an hour- close enough.

The more time you can spend in the area before making a commitment, the better. Ride around the Lake Robinson area- Rte 253 and Groce Meadow Rd., and up towards Blue Ridge, as well as Travelers Rest. Check out the shopping in Cherrydale, TR, and Greer to see if your needs will be met. Ask plenty of specific questions here, and we'll try to guide you.
