I usually don't get sick but picked up the bug 4days ago. I'm still congested, achy, hot and cold, ...just wondering how long.

I am one that rarely gets the flu, but it happens from time to time. My wife used to get sick several times a year down in FL, but since she has been here in Upstate, SC, she has not got sick yet.

As per time, it all depends on what you are eating, drinking, environmental conditions and rest. However, in the long run, it differs quite a bit between people. For me, the more rest the longer it stays, so I usually rest less and get out and walk and get fresh air as much as possible. I also eat a lot of real chicken soup and plenty of Gatorade (electrolytes). Grapefruit juice is awesome during a cold, as it shortens the life of it. Take much Vitamin C and B12 Complex.

I wish you the very best 'sunandsweet' and hopefully a quick recovery!

Anybody I've known that had it including myself, it took a good 7-14 days to be rid of it. Hopefully that means you'll start feeling better very soon. I had a flu shot last year because Dad was in a rehab facility and we didn't want to take the chance. Not sure if I will get it this year or not.

I will pray you and all yours will not and will remain healthy and in good spirits!

I think I started having it around Friday and just today started feeling some better. Maybe 5 days for me. 3rd day was worst. Couldn't do anything but sleep.

Isn't it kind of early for flu season?

I thought I saw just this week that the new vaccine is now available. Seems early to me but the symptoms OP has sound about right! And, once the kids get back in school the sickness starts flying around town!

How green is your mucus? Supposedly some whooping cough has been making the rounds as well.

I wound up getting smacked around by the creeping crud that's going around as well.. I don't think what I had was the flu, tho.. Mild, low grade fever.. But just started Sunday as a soreness in the jaw/ear.. Then rolled up into an upper sinus thing on Monday.. Fell down into the lower sinuses and chest on Tuesday.. Full blown miserable head/chest thing on Wednesday with a voice that was barely hanging on.. Today.. Seems that it's almost completely out of the sinuses and is an improving chest cold now.. Voice is better, but not 100%.. Whatever is in the chest is starting to break up and be coughed up.. But.. Again, I don't think this was the flu... Just the creeping crud.
