Default Ingle's Markets #29, Moonville Plaza, 7616 Augusta Road, Piedmont, South Carolina 29673-9652

I must have stepped back in time yesterday when I visited Ingle's Markets #29. Upon walking in the store through the vestibule, I noticed the cart corral and customer service are to the right of the store. The delicatessen is adjacent to the meat market in the back of the store. The produce department was in the left rear corner of the store. The bakery is up front to the left of the store. The decor and fixtures are reminiscent of Ingle's stores from the 1970's.

The only modification to the store appears to be the checkout stands as they are current with newer Ingle's stores. They replaced the older checkout stands in the late 1990's or early 2000's.

Ingle's Markets acquired the Moonville Plaza site several years ago with the intention of replacing store #29. The rest of Moonville Plaza is vacant.

I've driven by that location several times - first time, did a double take and thought it was the 1970's! :shudder:

I've been saying that about the location on Fairview Rd. in Simpsonville for a while. Maybe I should swing by this other one to see if I've been saying it about the wrong store! (I guess to be fair, the Simpsonville one feels more 1982/1983 to me, despite the fact that Fairview Station didn't even exist back then. I've had nothing but good experiences there, but it does feel trapped in time. )

Default Ingle's Markets #41, Fairview Station, 621 Fairview Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680-7501

Ingle's Markets #41 relocated from West Georgia Road to Fairview Station when it was constructed approximately 26 years ago. It is an example of Ingle's late 1980's stores. Three other identical stores are located throughout the upstate South Carolina market:
  • #15, 1627 West Floyd Baker Blvd, Gaffney, South Carolina 29341-1203
  • #67, 312 Jacobs Highway, Clinton, South Carolina 29325-7279
  • #74, 6605 White Horse Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29611-2539
Stores #15 and #74 will be replaced by new stores on new sites.

As discussed in "Fairview Station, Simpsonville, South Carolina," I do not think Ingle's Markets #41 has the room at its current location to expand.

I believe the Moonville Ingle's may be one of the last 1970's style stores remaining, as most older stores have since been renovated.

That is correct.

Another store untouched will be Ingle's Markets #77, 625 Spartanburg Highway, Hendersonville, North Carolina 28792-5762. It opened in July 1980. Enjoy this store while it lasts. A replacement store with food, pharmacy, fuel and Starbucks should be going on site in the near future.
