Yes, I heard Ingle's Markets purchased the Beattie Huff property years ago with the intention of replacing and relocating their existing store (store #74) on White Horse Road at Lily Street. I do not know if that is their highest priority presently.

Most new Ingle's stores are at least 80,000 square feet, have drive through pharmacies and have I-Market fuel centers.

Ingle's appears to have a slate of stores up for improvements.

116 West Butler Road, Mauldin (store #42)
The existing store replaced its adjacent old location, recently vacated by Big Lots, in 1994. A new store in a new structure is planned for the site that will involve the demolition of both existing Ingle's and former Big Lots spaces.

10903 Anderson Road, Piedmont (store #73)
The existing store replaced the adjacent old store in 1994. A new store is planned on the site.

621 Fairview Road, Simpsonville (store #41)
Existing 32,000 square feet store at Fairview Station replaced old store, now demolished, on West Georgia Road at I-385 in late 1980s.

Increasing vacancy, including Dragon Den, has prompted speculation Ingle's may be considering a new store on site.

2795 East Main Street, Spartanburg (store #38)
The existing store replaced its adjacent old store in 1994. The old store remains used by Ingle's for storage. The existing store is currently the oldest in operation in Spartanburg County.

A new store is likely planned down the road. An 80,000 square feet store with a fuel center would have limited parking at the existing store unless it was at another location like the former Lanyair golf course next to Home Depot.

State Park Road, Travelers Rest (store #40)
The 25,000 square feet store closed in 2001 or 2002. The nearest stores are #69 (relocation/replacement, 1500 Poinsett Highway, Greenville, opened in 2000) and #206 (additional location, 1500 Geer Highway, Travelers Rest, opened in 1996).

The former Emtex manufacturing facility on South End Circle was once rumored to be redeveloped into Travelers Rest Crossing, a retail center. The latest I heard was a new Ingle's store with 20,000 square feet of adjacent retail space.

Two stores I forgot to mention in Anderson:

1900 North Main Street, Anderson (store #239)
The video department is being replaced with a pharmacy department. The store is accepting applications for Pharmacy Manager, Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician. This will be Ingle's 22nd pharmacy in South Carolina.

Two other stores will see their video departments replaced with pharmacy departments in the near future: 1503 North Main Street, Abbeville (store #56) and 2404 Highway 81, Anderson (store #240).

Stores 56, 239 and 240 opened circa 1996.

Pearman Dairy Road, Anderson (old store #39)
Ingle's Markets announced their intentions to open an additional store on the site of its old store #39 on Pearman Dairy Road at Michelin Boulevard in 2008. No specifics were given when construction will start and when the new store will open.

Store #39 relocated to Highway 24 at Whitehall Road circa 1996.

I wish they'd get started on the Mauldin store! If they demolish both structures will they close the existing store for construction of the new? Will be interesting to watch!

Ingle's do keep the existing stores open up to a point where part of the new store is completed and ready to move in. As the new store is partly occupied and the final phase of construction concludes, the old store is demolished. Stores 8 (550 Highway 9, Black Mountain, North Carolina) and 45 (2000 South Pine Street, Spartanburg) are examples.

In regards to store 42, I could see the former Big Lots and Dollar General being demolished first to construct the fresh foods side up to frozen foods center store. The existing store would be reconstructed to include the drive through pharmacy, dairy, beer and wine and, in select locations, a garden center.

Ah, I see. I don't think I have ever seen that done anywhere.

Thanks! +1

I like Ingles and would shop there more often if one were located more conveniently for me. I would indeed be happy to see the Mauldin store replaced with a newer and bigger facility, but I would be even happier to see a new store built in the Woodruff Road/Five Forks corridor (preferably) or even near the intersection of Batesville Rd. and Hwy. 14. West Butler Road is just too far out of the way for me to visit on a regular basis. I do shop in the Stallings Road store - newer, bigger and brighter than the Mauldin store - whenever I visit friends in the Pebble Creek neighborhood.

That said, do you have any idea of a possible time frame for the Mauldin store redo?

I don't think anyone does! I go by there 5 times a week. If I see something, I'll post it here.

No, I do not have any knowledge when Ingle's store #42 will undergo its improvements.

I think Ingle's has struggled in Greenville because they lack enough locations in eastern Greenville County. Woorduff Road at East Butler Road, Woodruff Road in the Five Forks area, Pelham Road near I-85 and Brushy Creek Road at Old Spartanburg Road are among several prominent areas Ingle's has not tapped.

I have read several articles recently speculating Ingles could be Kroger's next acquisition. That would be a great way for Kroger to grow Harris Teeter like they say they will do (a lot of infill in the Western Carolinas for HT) or you never know Ingles could sell off stores in some markets like Greenville/Spartanburg to Kroger for a Harris Teeter expansion. All just speculation but will be interesting to see if M&A activity continues this year in the grocery industry.
