I planted several tea olive and gardenia bushes seven years ago (I live in Anderson, SC) and they've grown wonderfully. I also had 4 golden euonymus that, over the winter, developed a 'disease' and defoliated (lost every single leaf). During last spring, I had a severe infestation of aphids on most of the gardenias and the euonymus but treated effectively and rapidly and eradicated the aphids.
Anyway, my tea olive bushes' leaves and gardenia bushes' leaves all started to turn brown at the tips, the 'browning' moved down the leaf, engulfing the entire leaf, until the leaves fall off. All tea olives have been affected, in sections (not over the entire bush) and the 'browning' totally destroyed one huge gardenia and has spread to 6 other bushes, alongside my home. Depsite my attempts to stop the spread with fungicides (Neem oil and a brand name "add to hose" type) and spraying with an insecticde, the destructive 'whatever' continues to destroy my bushes.
We've had adequate rain but have experienced 2 snow events over the winter (one with 4 inches and one more than 6 inches and we usually only have one snow/ice event a year). Our winter was a little harsher than normal. All the bushes are surrounded by pinestraw.
I noticed today the 'browning' has spread to my azaleas.
Any idea of what this could be and any ideas of what I could do to stop this? I cut out the 'diseased' areas of the affected bushes, trying carefully to disinfect the clippers between bushes but this hasn't stopped the spread of 'whatever' this is. I've searched online and the only thing I can come up with is "leaf spot" or some type of fungus but I've treated for both to no avail.
Same thing happening with mine (I live just north of Columbia) but I think I got a little overzealous with the fertilizer. I was trying so hard to do the right thing by them that I over-did it. Clemson Extension is a fantastic resource! If they can't help you, they will refer you to someone who can.
I have the same type of problem on my gardenias, leaf browning at tips spreading to the rest of leaf. Plant getting some yellowing of leaves also. I water once a day, 10 minutes on auto timed sprinkler. Does this sound like too much water. Gardenias new to garden about 2 months ago.

I never water my gardenias unless we are in an extreme drought. Overwatering your plants can lead to root rot and kill the plants.
