Summer heat and humidity (Columbia, Charleston: tornadoes, living in, move to)

Here is a little distraction from your upcoming storm. If we move to S. Carolina (Seneca/Clemson area) we'd be coming from the very dry West part of the country. Do you have any suggestions on how to handle the humidity in the summer? How hot does it get out there?

There's AC everywhere. Go out in the early morning and late in the evening. Try to stay indoors in the day or go to a pool or to a lake to cool off. Hopefully with time, you will be able to get used to it.

We used to live in MN where it got really humid at times in the summer. So I've experienced it. But it's probably a lot worse in SC. Do people complain about it there or is it just a way of life?

I'm originally from PA but lived in FL 13 years in FL before coming here in the summer last year. It's no big deal to us but we do hear people complaining on occasion. The one thing about here is that you get 4 seasons. The spring and fall are long. It gets hot everywhere in the summer so you have to think of it that way. Living in the Greenville area is going to be more tolerable than living closer to the coast or Columbia. I think it's hotter and more humid there. If it's an issue to you, you can always go an hour or so north to the mountains in North Carolina.

I used to live on Lake Keowee - fantastic area/amazing lake - quite hot/humid during from mid-June thru early September - buy/rent a boat - swim - like everyone else does! Competitive swimming is HUGE in the Greenville area.

Last summer was amazing - very few days with true heat/humidity - lots and lots of rain/cloudy days - felt like we were in the NC mountains - but an anomaly - I expect a "normal" summer this year.

As another former FL resident: what humidity?

Tell me more about the weather. Are there tornadoes very often? What happens in hurricanes that far inland?

I would say Charleston is humid, but not Greenville.

Heavy rain, some wind with lots of visitors.
