Upstate Business Journal reports seafood chain Captain D's will be opening 20 locations across upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina over three years.
Captain D's presently operates one location in Anderson. It is located at 221 West Shockley Ferry Road, Anderson, South Carolina 29624-3734.
^^That is very good news, as Captn. D's is a very good fast casual seafood restaurant. And I am happy to see them return to the Upstate, since most locations closed several years ago. I think overall their food quality is better than Long John Silver's, which appears to be on the decline in this area. And this will fill in the gap between Charlotte, Columbia, and Atlanta for Captn. D's, although I did not realize there is one remaining store in Anderson. One other interesting note that was not mentioned in the news release: For years, Captn. D's was successfully owned and operated by Shoney's, before being sold off as a separate corporation.
It was quite common to see Shoney's and Captain D's located adjacent or close to one another. Bad decisions by Shoney's not only led to the closing of Shoney's locations, it sent Captain D's into a decline. Captain D's being on a rebound on its own is very good.
I will also agree Long John Silver's has just about closed its way out of the area. Instead of growing business in a region deprived of fast seafood and serving customers, the chain closed store after store. I wonder if Captain D's market re-entrance will stimulate Long John Silver's to do a market renewal.
The Anderson location is corporate owned and operated. New locations across upstate South Carolina will likely be operated by franchisees.
When Long John Silver's was owned by Yum! brands, many locations were cobranded with A&W and KFC. And unfortunately, overall food quality began to decline. I believe today, LJS and A&W may still be co-owned, but the A&W brand does not appear to remain strong.

I will agree. The A&W brand was Yum! Brands answer to the burgers and fries market. Co-branding it with Long John Silver's was to increase business. I doubt it helped much.
Except for Pizza Hut/Wingstreet, I do not see many Yum! Brands co-branding going on.
No, Yum! still does cobranding. There is a KFC/Taco Bell in Traveler's Rest, and a Taco Bell/Pizza Hut at Mills Ave. and Augusta Rd. in Greenville. But thankfully they still have the individual stores for these concepts, as overall the quality at the single locations seems better.
D's still has the Greenwood location, right? I know someone mentioned they closed the Shoney's a few weeks back.. But, that was one that was located near/next to Shoney's.. As was the one on White Horse Rd, if I recall.. Or was that Quincy's it was near?

No, the only location presently operating in the upstate is in Anderson.
Greenwood did have a Captain D's, located at 216 Bypass 72 Northwest, Greenwood, South Carolina 29649-1509. It is not listed on Captain D's website. I think it closed way before Shoney's did over a month ago.
Captain D's was on White Horse Road adjacent to Shoney's and Quincy's. It was also on North Pleasantburg Drive in front of former Bi-Lo #9/Naked Furniture/Play It Again Sports across from Bob Jones University. These were the only two locations in Greenville I know of.
Greer had a Captain D's. Its site, presently 101 West Wade Hampton Boulevard, Greer, South Carolina 20650-1651, is occupied by Walgreen's #7297. Prior to knowing about the Anderson location today, this was the last Captain D's I recall being in operation.
I must correct myself. It helps to pay attention to the restaurant locator. Please accept my apology.
Three locations presently operate across upstate South Carolina:
221 West Shockley Ferry Road, Anderson, South Carolina 29624-3734
216 Bypass 72 Northwest, Greenwood, South Carolina 29649-1509
1067 Sandifer Boulevard, Seneca, South Carolina 29678-2537
