I have been researching Southern cities for quite some time now, and recently found Greenville. It looks perfect for our needs. We're a mature couple looking to eventually retire in the area. We have always preferred
"down-town" living. It's great to be able to walk to Main Street and all of the restaurants, shops, etc. We also want something small and older - we love the character that older homes offer and we actually enjoy remodeling. 2 bedroom "bungalows" would be perfect for us. Having said all of this, what area, or streets, would some of you recommend? It's possible we may not be able to get to the area before we buy something and I'll need to rely on word-of-mouth and opinion. Thanks to all who respond!

My husband and I had the same idea, but downtown living is scarce, not really abundant, other than condo living. There are some homes in the West End (but it will take another 5-10 years for that area to be developed). We have set out sites on Carillion/Furman areas. About 5-7 miles outside of the downtown. Good luck.

Try one of the first three places listed here: Destination Downtown (http://www.greatergreenville.com/enews/destinationdowntown/march06.htm - broken link) The website for McBee Station is: http://www.mcbee-station.com/ However, the website seems to be down currently.

Here are some pics of McBee Station to give you an idea of what it looks like:

Smile A little off topic but....

Hey G-Man do you happen to know what the apartments in McBee Station are going to be going for a month? Their website didn't say last time I checked. Just wondering if they are reasonable for my price range for the future possibly. They look lovely. I drove by them today. Thanks!!

I have no idea unfortunately. The only thing I can think of doing is filling out the request form listed here: McBee Station (http://www.mcbee-station.com/request.htm - broken link)
