Shane's Rib Shack is probably another example of a good local spot that doesn't translate well into dozen's of franchises.I never trust franchise BBQ.
The only exception I'd make there is the Smithfield's BBQ chain in Eastern NC. Their BBQ and sides are good and very consistent between locations.

Oh Whitewater- I used to love their fried chicken! I make better banana pudding though! Whenever I was showing homes in the Garner/Clayton area I woukd stop there on the way home to get dinner.

They have expanded and now have a single Charlotte location. I expect it's too much to expect they will expand to the Upstate any time soon, though.

I tried it the other day I got the brisket Bun, it wasnt bad... like you said a little bland but it was something different.

Checked out the new Antonio's Pizzeria tonight and was disappointed.The pizza crust was bland, textureless fastfood/foodservice type crust, not as good as Pizza House and PH is nothing special.

Let me apologize. My last two posts were overly negative.


Antonio's is bright and attractive(new) with even a small full bar, but I suspect they are using premade crust.
