Does anyone have any information regarding the multiple occurrences of an afternoon "DUI-style" checkpoint at the intersection of Duncan Rd and Hunts Bridge Rd in the Berea area? There has been a heavy police presence there on at least two occasions now during my commute home from work. The officers look into every car as it stops at the stop signs.

Surely nobody is DUI this early in the day!

Let me borrow those rose colored glasses for a while.

Nighttime has, of course, the highest occurrence of DUI.. But, it is fairly common during the day as well. The folks who stop off for a couple of drinks right after work.. Even at lunchtime, the guys with the 4 martini lunches. Early mornings, when third shift gets off work..

As the saying goes.. It's 5 o'clock somewhere.

I wonder if the Greenville County Sheriff's Office has received numerous complaints in regards to speeding and not stopping at the four-way stop intersection. With Greenville County Schools winding down the school year, traffic at Armstrong Elementary and Berea Middle schools will have pedestrian and vehicle traffic earlier in the afternoon.

Both roads provide quick access out of Berea. Duncan Road/Watkins Bridge Road provides quick access from White Horse Road and Berea over to Furman University, Duncan Chapel Road, Old Buncombe Road and Poinsett Highway. Hunt's Bridge Road provides quick access from Berea to White Horse Road and Travelers Rest.

I've definitely seen cars run those stop signs, but I'd expect the response to that would be to sit in a cruiser near the intersection and "keep an eye on things". The situation today was several cruisers at the intersection with deputies standing in the street - really just like a DUI checkpoint.

Maybe Labonte18 is onto something, but I've never seen a checkpoint like that anywhere else in the county during the day, or even heard of such a technique.

I've encountered a "License Check" several times on the way home when I was working in Spartanburg.. So, that would have been around 5:15pm or so on 101 in Woodruff heading towards Gray Court.

My wife encountered a license check, this week, behind the Whitehorse road jockey lot. They checked for license, current plate sticker and seat belt use. The officer issued her a card for a free Chick-Fil-A sandwich, for having her seat belt on.

Can they do that? I thought the Supreme Court case that authorized DUI checkpoints only allowed them because they were so seriously needed to prevent drunken driving. I doubt seatbelts or license checks would be allowed if someone sued over it.
