I don't think the Panthers WANT to be there.. Mainly due to the association with Richardson.. But.. It makes the most sense for them to be there. Not just this year, but for future years as well.
The Charlotte NC Panthers can stay north of the state line as far as i care. Do they really care about SC? Think I read somewhere that SCDOT is building a 40 million dollar I-77 interchange to the new facility. Maybe SC can just lure a Buc-ee's with 100 pumps to that interchange instead since many like to drive over into SC for cheaper gas. More gas tax money for SC and payment for the improvements. lol.

But it’s good for Spartanburg! It brings in a lot of people who will go downtown and support our restaurants and shops. With all the doom and gloom in the world, this is something fun to look forward to!

The Panthers training camp has always been at Wofford in Spartanburg for the most part, and was expected to return there until the new training facility is built. Although now it is unclear whether it will be in Rock Hill or elsewhere.
This is just posturing at this point. Too much money is already in the ground on that site. The Panthers paid big bucks for the property with no contingencies.
Don't these billionaire owners have enough money to finish their projects without floating debt on the backs of taxpayers. The panthers money might be better spent first on getting better players. They have won what like only 5 games each season over last few years? Their record has been awful. Who wants to go spend their money and watch that mess?

You are correct. Too much money has been spent and too much time is invested in the project to completely back out now. This project will be completed. It makes no sense for any public funds to go into this mess of a franchise.

Panthers owner David Tepper is furious with Rock Hill and SC politicians, according to the Charlotte Observer today. And WBT Radio is reporting it is highly unlikely the Panthers will complete the project in Rock Hill. Apparently dead in the water and they may be looking at alternative sites across the border in NC. The stadium remains in Uptown Charlotte.

What would happen to the infrastructure that is already in the ground if this happens?
