Stopped by the new Dollar General that opened in the old Walmart Express in Gray Court, SC. I was passing through from the hurricane evacuation, so this is a quick review.

It must be somewhat humiliating for Walmart to have sold at bargain prices the very store they built less than 2 years ago to compete with Dollar General...to Dollar General. But here we are.

Gone is the pharmacy...all covered up. Everything else on the inside is roughly the same. Dollar General has less checkout stands and less staffing. They have announced 15 people will work there, it was 30 with Walmart.

The gas pumps were wrapped up and closed off, still with the Walmart branding on them. Dollar General has announced they will be operating the gas pumps, so more to come there, I'd imagine.

This is Dollar General's new "DG-16" layout, not the fuller "Dollar General Market" layout.

Pros:
Fresh fruits and vegetables for sale
Fresh meats for sale, including name brands like Tyson. No questionable looking "mystery meat"
Full frozen and dairy section

Cons:
Produce is quite limited, as are the meats. Walmart stocked more
Wasted cooler space filled with drinks, when it could have more healthy foods
It's a Dollar General, still way too much processed junk food everywhere

Bottom line:

If you live in Gray Court and have no transportation, this place will be a welcome addition.
