I visited the wine bar at the Grand Bohemian on Meeting Street in downtown Charleston yesterday. When this brand comes to Greenville, it will provide a quality addition to downtown. The sommelier in Charleston, who had completed his sommelier training at The Lazy Goat here in Greenville, told me that the City of Charleston insisted on limiting the height of the building so that it would remain consistent with the surrounding area. We'll see what the City of Greenville decides to do.

Theres nothing new about limiting the height of buildings being developed in the 'historic district' of Charleston... its been formally in effect for about 50 years ... and informally for longer than that...which is basically 4 stories....all with the intent to keep that section of the city's downtown in human scale....

What is relatively new ... is the limit imposed on new hotel development....of no more than 50 rooms in any new hotel...tho several larger hotels were permitted before the new restrictions went into place and have recently opened or are under final stages of construction. If I recall correctly ... the newly opened Bohemian and the Spectator were subject to the 50 room limit as well as others. Ive been to both and found them to be quite nice ... great décor .. happening bar crowd...great dining experiences. Since I live within walking distance of each .. Ive not had the opportunity of seeing the actual hotel rooms ... but am sure they measure up to the public rooms.

I do agree that it will add a high quality hotel to Greenville's downtown... the folks in Greenville...whether they live there or are visitors... should be very pleased....congratulations !

it feels like little ol downtown Gville is about to enter its golden age with this project, the county square project, and the Church / Stone project.

Cody Alcorn, a reporter with Fox Carolina tweeted this:

Just confirmed the Grand Bohemian Hotel Greenville development is still a go for downtown @Greenville_SC but ground breaking pushed back to Spring 2018.
