Several lodging facilities along the Interstate 85 Business corridor have shuttered because of illegal activity. If Country Hearth Inn degraded to such activity, I could see why it closed.
That is a good video, Labonte18. All guest rooms appeared to be gutted out. The commons area and reservation desk appeared to have equipment and furnishings abandoned.
Anything remaining on the site could likely be demolished, and the site could continue to sit vacant without any structures.
I rather like the 'exploring' videos.. Most of them, at least.. There's a few out there that are breaking things and doing things that aren't right in them. There's far better people than that (Carpetbagger if anyone follows his channel is decently good) but there's far worse as well. That one just interested me because it was local.
I've wondered if the old.. What I believe was a Howard Johnson's at one time in the distant past that is/was off business 85 up in spartanburg has been cleaned up yet.. The hotel itself has been shuttered for years.. I think, if I'm not mistaken, it's right before Herron Circle.
Ah.. Right past it.. Spartanburg Motor Lodge. I'm shocked that hasn't been razed yet.
Interesting timing with condemnation then...
Also wonder if anyone was living in there...the other abandoned motels/hotels along biz85 behind the QT always seem to have people around them here or there and one always has a door or two open with people.
I was by the old Holiday Inn/Ramada/Country Hearth location a year or so ago (had to go to the WSPA studios, which are right next door to it). It looked horrible...but I guess demolition would've cost more than it was worth, and given that it's no longer on the main I-85 corridor, redevelopment in the near future isn't very likely.
I'm curious about the former Howard Johnson's location, too. Is it still standing? It dates back to the late 1950's. Last time I was by there a few years ago, the whole complex (restaurant + motor lodge) was still intact, but deteriorating. If money were no object, I'd redo it into a retro-themed motel.

I doubt demolition would cost more than completely reclaiming the hotel. Demolition could be a step closer to reality accompanied with asbestos removal.

Has anyone noticed the former Country Hearth Inn being demolished recently?
