It was a small beige 1970s (I’d guess) mall where Lowe’s is now. It had a Walmart (later turned into an outlet), grocery store, movie theater and an enclosed area. I drove by it plenty of times over the years on the way to and from Clemson but went inside only once.
When was it built and was there ever an attempt to keep t alive once the Walmart outlet closed?
Foothills Mall, 6068 Calhoun Memorial Highway, Easley, South Carolina 29640-3812
I remember Foothills Mall having Community Cash (succeeding Food Town), Walmart with mall access, Alexander Drug, and possibly Western Sizzlin'. Foothills Malls was demolished in the mid-1990's to make way for Lowe's #469, 6068 Calhoun Memorial Highway, Easley, South Carolina 29640-3812.
Lowe's #469's previous location is now the second and present Ingle's #51, 5251 Calhoun Memorial Highway, Easley, South Carolina 29640-3865
I too remember Foothills Mall. On the left end was the YMCA weight gym for a while. There was also a small theater for plays (Foothills Playhouse I think), and for awhile in the 90s, a baseball card shop. It seems like there was a haircut place one time too, but I don't remember a clothes store, I think those have always been across the street where the Belk is now. The movie theater only had two screens (I also remember seeing movies at the Colony). I also remember the old walmart before the "big" one was built on 135. I guess it fit the definition of a mall in the technical sense; some stores enclosed under one roof, but it was TINY!
I think the old Lowe's was across the street from the current Ingles, no?
Damn CK, you beat me too it.Both Lowe's and Walmart have had three locations in Easley.
Foothills mall was Built By George (Bud) Nalley and Nalley Commercial Properties in the early 70"s.The theater was part of Litchfield Cinemas owned by the late Foster McKissick who developed Litchfield Beach. His Son Rion is a fishing buddy.
The gym in the mall was owned by Bill Berry (Happy Plants) and if you were a lady working there you didn't have to know anything about exercise, but you had to be smoking hot!
Food Town - my foggy memory has Food Lion stuck in there. Glad to finally have the correct name.
Seems like I can very vaguely remember the intersection for SC 153 and US 123 being built.
You are correct it was probably Lion.
Food Lion was named Food Town originally. They changed the name to Lion in the early 80's to avoid confusion with another Food Town chain that expanded into their territory in Virginia I believe. The Greenwood stores in the early 80's were Town briefly before changing the name to Lion.

That makes sense. I remember seeing that store on the side of US 123 while being shuttled between grandparents in the summer. My mom's parents lived in Clemson (their house was demolished and is now an apartment complex) and my dad's mom lived on a small farm in Simpsonville.

In 1982 it was Food Town. I’m thinking the divestiture of this store and the Greer location to Community Cash, was prior to the name change to Food Lion. FWIW.
