You really need to get a good realtor and look over here in Spartanburg. The amount of house and quality of house you can get here in Spartanburg is really really good. You can find a great house in a new or established neighborhood here. I am retired and my wife and I upsized instead of downsizing because the home prices are so good. Best of look in finding the right home!!!

Sounds good. What areas of Spartanburg should I look at? Not looking at being rich in retirement, maybe comfortable, sure can't do that here in Maryland.

On the eastside of Spartanburg Converse Heights, Duncan Park, Fernwood, Hillbrook, Pierce Acres, Eastway Park, Roberts Meadows, Oakbrook, Cypress Creek, Brookfield, Andrews Farms, Whites Mill, Lake Forest, Calhoun Lakes, and Heathwood are some good ones. On the westside there are a lot. There is a trail called the Wadsworth trail. There are a ton of neighborhoods on that trail. Woodbridge and Hawk Creek are two. Off of Reidville Rd. and South Blackstock Rd. there are a lot of neighborhoods there. Most if not all of these neighborhoods are well established and not cookie cutter. A good real estate agent can help can help. I can message you if you want a name.

OP is trying to stay under $150k. A lot of those areas are out of his price range but I’m sure you can point him to which of those neighborhoods would work.

Wondering if below 150,000 is even possible anywhere in the Greenville Spartanburg area. I've been living in Maryland for the past 23 yrs and it seems like everytime I see a new development going up it's over 300 even for condos. I don't know how anyone can afford to live here unless they have a high paying job. I know I don't want to live in town, mainly just looking for somewhere I won't have to drive more than 20-30 minutes to get groceries.

You can — parts of Greer, Spartanburg and some of the surrounding towns. This is an example near me and Nans123 in a wonderful area on the Eastside of Spartanburg. At that price, they are pretty small and some will need updating but there are options. Taxes aren’t anything like Maryland either. There are also duplexes in that range you may want to consider.

I’d suggest selling, downsizing, storing furniture and renting an apartment for six months. It’s hard to house-hunt long distance. When you find the right house/area, you can pounce with cash available, pre-qualified mortgage lined up and write a no contingency contract. Obviously, at that price, things move very quickly in good areas.

Downsizing for sure. My current house is 1800 sq foot and I'd like to get down to 1200. I've got a den I don't use and an extra bedroom that I won't need, mainly need to empty my garage of 40 yrs worth of "stuff".

Here’s one in Greer, as an example. You’ll have a hard time getting something close to downtown Greenville but there are options.
