For all of you who miss them, they're getting closer. Maybe we can pray for one in the Upstate to be built sooner than later. Anyone planning on making a pilgrimage there?? Can't get a Publix in Greer...hey, Wegman's, come on down!!!!!

You beat me to it. Apparently, there was a charter bus from Charlotte at the grand opening.

One open, 5 more to go. Chances are good for a store in Greensboro, then on to Charlotte.

Maybe then to Greenville!!!!!!

I use to go to Chapel Hill quite often, but those days are over. Now I'll have to wait til my friend goes to her son who lives in Raleigh to pick up Zweigel's for me. Maybe I need to make a plant nursery and Wegmans run one day soon, when the crowds die down.

My guess is that they'll need the 2nd or 3rd Wegmans to be open before it isn't a madhouse. They're going to be attracting the curious from all over. I saw a thread on a Florida board a while back about the coming of Wegmans to Raleigh. I'm patiently waiting. I'm as interested in hitting their H-Mart.

How about Wegman's in Greenville? If it increases the number of new store it opens each year and expands its territory, it should not be difficult.

BI-LO is better...if you want higher prices and to lack necessities. It fails in comparison to Wegman's.

I think that Wegmans may get to Greenville and Charleston. According to reports, the grand opening in Raleigh was record-breaking. 3,000 people. I think that guarantees that they will spread to the rest of the NC Piedmont. I suspect that they'll go for a store in Wilmington as well as a store in Asheville. That would get them to the Upstate and Charleston.

We were close to a Wegman’s in Virginia. Biggest problem is they are so FLIPPIN’ BIG! You need roller blades to get from one end to the other and inevitably, you get to the western end and realize you need something at the eastern end. The seasonal merchandise (dishes, towels, specialty decorating etc) section was huge and placed right in the middle of the store along with the pharmacy so you had to go through that to get to the groceries on one side and the groceries on the other side. Lots of impulse buying because their stuff is certainly cute.

They do have great selection but I found weekly shopping there exhausting. The vaunted customer service wasn’t really all that great either because of the sheer volume of shoppers, it was hard to find an employee sometimes.

The place was always packed but I’ll stick with Publix or Ingles unless looking for something unusual.
