I wish Greenville and McAlister had been the two surviving malls. Never really cared much for Haywood. Just always preferred one level malls. I would love to see McAlister redevelop with retail and maybe an apartment building where the old Belk was recently torn down.
Does anyone have any pics of the huge water feature that was at any of the malls in Greenville?
Im particularly interested in the ones at Haywood Mall and Greenville Mall.
Greenville Mall in the late 90s was fun. I worked at Hobby Town and we'd close down for an hour or two and go eat pizza and play at the arcade or hang out at the Baseball card store. Never was a fan of Haywood and Haywood road in general. It was just a necessary evil when you needed something specific before online ordering became the norm. McAlister Square was cool. It had the Wrestlefest arcade at the Eckerds. Didn't go there much.
Mine was Greenville Mall in the late 1990s. Nice stores, not crowded and a nice place overall: much nicer than Haywood. Too bad it didn't last.
Greenville Mall in the 80s! Seemed like every time we went to Haywood, there was a fight in the parking lot, or somewhere in the mall. Ill bet you we walked 10000 miles back and forth at Greenville "picking up chicks".
Never saw any fights at Haywood. Seen a lot downtown before it got all trendy and big time.
Man, we did. There was one at the Sears Auto Center entrance one night. That kid was so bloody the cops were saying he wasnt going to make it until the ambulance got there. Another was in the food court bathrooms. We were walking out as this group was going in, we knew what was going on so we hauled it out of there. And once 2 girls rolled down the stairs.
Greenville mall was just so.. Dark. As was the standard at the time it was built. Crosscreek mall in Greenwood was much the same.. You had those orange, brown and purple colors.. No natural lighting, the lighting that was there wasn't great..
It really was beautiful after the upgrades/remodel in.. 95? But, the attempt to be a 'high end' mall just didn't work.
