Yes. It was dark at night. GM had pyramid shaped skylights in parts of the mall but not much overhead artificial lighting. It had lamppost style 70's lighting I believe. I liked the wood vaulted ceilings in Greenville Mall though that were painted over white in the 90's updates. I hated they did that.
Funny I remember Dixie Carter of the 90's TV show Designing Women made an appearance and sang at the re grand opening after the updates in the 90's.
Heres an old directory (97) I found after the 90's renovation. Stores include Harold's,Crabtree and Evlyn, Williams Sonoma, White House/Black Market,Talbot's, The Mole Hole, Store House. Some of those eventually moved to Haywood and Greenridge like Williams Sonoma and Talbots.

Agreed.
Didn't Greenville Mall seem to be so old, dated and run down by the early 90s, even though it was only around 12 or so years old? And Bell Tower Mall seemed totally derelict and outdated in the early 80s, when it was only 12 years old.
Maybe the styles of the 1970s just didn't age well.

Oshman's was pretty cool back in the day.I don't remember an oyster bar either.
The criticism back then was the NEW GM was better suited to Buckhead than Greenville. They were at least partly right.

Yes. That upscale seafoood restaurant was located between Parisian and Wards in the mall entrance. There was also a wait service restaurant that was a diner type place similar to Stax Omega on the left of the food court (69)as you entered. Don't remember the name. Something like American Cafe. It did not last long. It was closed by that 97 map directory.
The Oriental Express Chinese outlasted everything in that food court. They later moved down to Garlington station at the end before the mall was torn down and became Oriental House.

Yeah seeing that GM directory jogged my memory. I remember walking into the mall and seeing that oyster bar. Always thought that was a weird thing for Greenville and at a mall.
It was the American Cafe. There was one in Augusta Mall until about 2003. A friend of my she was a waitress there. Ate there a few times. Mediocre.
The Chinese places are always the last ones to go. The sole survivors. Haha.
We never went to GM when visiting in the 80s. It was always Haywood. My aunt's husband worked at that Parisians for about a year. So, we started going there.

Wasn't there a coin collectors type place there in the Greenville Mall back in the late 80's to early 90's?

Yeah, iirc, they also sold baseball cards.
I only remember because I stood in line at some point in the early 90's because some of the Atlanta Braves were there to sign autographs and I had the biggest crush on Javy Lopez when he was with the Greenville Braves so I HAD to go get his autograph when he came back to Greenville.
ETA: After reading the whole thread and looking at the map, I swear the coin/card place was in the same spot as the baseball card store, but unless they changed their name and became only baseball cards by the time the map was made, I must be not remembering it correctly.

The coin shop and baseball card shop were two separate stores.
