Where's our refund for the invalid road fee we have been paying on tax bills?

Not sure if the OP meant planning or condition but I've driven through 49 out of 50 states and SC does not seem to be worse or better than others. I would say there would be some factors that may play into the perception. But mostly it's super fast growth outpacing the ability to keep up with construction. Once completed I'd argue that 85 would be one of the best in the country.

Now, like a lot of the south, secondary and local roads are goat paths as they were simply created by the need to go from point A to B and if they met at some crazy angle so be it. Ever try to drive across N. GA without going through Atlanta?

You want the worst road to drive (excluding the nightmare of the NYC area)? That would be 81 through VA. 80% trucks, two lanes, up and down hills, college kids and over crowded. One minute you're doing 75 the next 45 after slamming on your brakes. Rinse and repeat for 4 hours. Or 95 in south FL, I 35 through TX, I 10 in Louisiana...The state of West Virginia.

SC seems pretty middle of the road in my opinion.

1. You really think its was ever going for road "improvements"? (Not you specifically)
2. Im not seeing it. (But we can blame covid for that, right?)
3. I have no issue with the taxes at the pumps, I really dont. But dont tell me its paying/paid to fix anything.

1. Thats why im asking because I'm just as confused as you. NC's taxes clearly went towards their roads. When will SC start seeing noticeable improvements, I have no idea. Is the state really that imcompetent and/or corrupt, is it covids fault, etc. I dont remember the details

2. Well its true, that's not my opinion. As of this moment SC is 10th lowest. 10th may sound high, but its only $2.88 which is still well below the national average of $3.18. SC is only 10 cents higher than #1 Mississippi. Pump 10 gallons, youre losing a grand ole $1.

3. I'm personally not telling you that, I was just curious how everything is supposed to be paid for. I think many people (not you) assumes the feds are just supposed to write everyone a blank check and call it a day, and that's not how it works.

I noticed last night on 85 in NC that there are no reflectors between lanes, at least between Gastonia and the SC border. The white lines are faded and hard to see at night. I drove off onto an exit ramp at one point because I could not see the lanes.

Once I got into SC, there were reflectors on the road between lanes.

Anecdotally, having lived in both States, my opinion mirrors yours: NC's gas taxes *clearly* fund road improvements, and the difference between NC/SC roads are great.

Overall, I have never had a problem with the way SC is managed, with the exception of her roads; a lot in SC is done efficiently and well. Unfortunately, SC has seen explosive growth, and her road planning is still catching up.

thank you for the notification
I am driving to NC this weekend - please everyone pray for me as I traverse "death chutes of the SC" (what is the death count now on this mismanaged project?)

That's definitely a death trap if theres ever been one. You can cut through Cowpens and Gaffney instead.

Driving across the country back in April, it took me a long time to realize what was different about it. Having reflectors between lanes is a regional thing, it seems. I started on the west coast and I drove 2,500+ miles before I started seeing reflectors between lanes again.
