Is anybody familiar enough with this area in Greenville? Prior to buying a house I'm going to have to rent. I noticed on Rent.com the Stratford Villa apartments, 200 Eunice Drive, 29611. I did check out a site for apartment ratings, but this apartment was not there.

If you happen to be familiar with this area, or this apartment please let me know what you think, good or bad.
Thank you.

I think these are elderly apartments and not in a nice area(?). They are listed on this state site http://www.state.sc.us/ltgov/aging/Information/HousingDirectory.htm (broken link)

Where are you looking for a house?

Thank you for the information. To answer your question, yes, I am looking for a house, but I have limited income so I'm beginning to think I might not be able to afford one. I'm leaning toward Easley because I heard you can get more for your money in this area. I only need a small 2 bedroom house for a sincgle adult.

29611 is in a lower income area. It's on the outskirts of downtown. I'd suggest another area. I've lived in Greenville and Ealsey and I can tell you better areas to look in! I live in Easley/Powdersville now and love it.

Can you tell me what areas in and around Greenville (by Zip code or any other way) where a family of 5 could buy a 4-bedroom house for $200,000 or less in a nice neighborhood, with streets where the kids could safely ride bikes and play with other kids, and where the schools are good. We live in central PA right now and although I'm not a snob or a bigot, if we move I'd like my neighbors to be like me, middle class with school-age children. My husband grew up on Long Island during the late 1960s (interpret as during the race riots after MLK's murder) and feels more comfortable with other Caucasians. It doesn't matter to me, as long as the people are friendly and law-abiding.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

If you're looking in Greenville Co., the Taylors area up near Lake Robinson is one to look at. There is a new neighborhood going up called Blue Ridge Plantation off Milford Church Rd. Houses there (depending on the builder) start at $160K. We used to live in the Beaver Brooke subdiv. just up from there and that was a great neighborhood. Houses there are $160K and up. That is a great community, lots of families and everyone knows every body. I enjoyed it there. My husband built 7 homes in that community (including our's) and it was one of my favorites. The school district is also good. You'd be looking at Mtn. View schools. Mtn. View Elementary and Blue Ridge Middle and HS. I haven't heard anything bad about any of them.

There are new houses going up all over that area of Lake Robinson. Hwy 101 and Hwy 14 areas. Prices range. They start at $150K or so and go up to a million or so. My husband is building in a million dollar neighborhood now on Lake Robinson called Pennington Pointe. You just have to look around. Be sure and get a good realtor who can honestly show you the area like it should be shown. C.Dan Joyner is one I always tell people about. It's part of Prudential.

If you're looking at other areas, another place is Easley. That is where we live now. My husband built several homes out here and I fell in love with the area. We're more in the country, whereas in Taylors, you're more in the mountain/lake area. Just depends on where you'd like to be. We are in Anderson Co. school dist. 1. It's considered the 'best of the best.' Houses here are real affordable and you get a decent amount of land with your purchase.

Good luck in your search! If you need any help, just email me privately. I'd be happy to tell you more!

Thanks for your reply (and your PM). I looked up the areas and schools you mentioned. I found elementary schools in Easley, but am unsure of which high school those schools feed into. There are a number of high schools listed for Anderson County, but nothing specifically for Easley. When I just search Easley schools (without Anderson County as a parameter), it shows Easley High School, but it's in Pickens County. Is this the high school that kids go to from Easley and that area?

There is always something for someone here. South of 85 (Simpsonville) is up and coming but may still have something in your price range..perhaps a townhouse.
